In December 2017, the staff of the anime series announced that My Hero Academia would be receiving an animated film. The film, titled My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, was directed by Kenji Nagasaki, produced by Bones and distributed in Japan by Toho. Set between the second and third seasons of the anime series, the film was released on August 3, 2018. On February 8, 2019, Funimation and Toho hosted the world premiere of My Hero Academia: Two Heroes at Anime Expo 2018 with the English dub.[78] The film screened in U.S. theaters for two days only on September 25 and 26, 2018,[79] before being released on home video on November 20. The series has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Bones and released in April 2017. The character of Izuku Midoriya was featured in the promotion of the film Boku no Hero Academia THE MOVIE: Futari no Hero. A stage musical adaptation by the Nelke Planning has been announced.
